The Hôtel des Invalides was founded by Louis XIV in 1674 to house veterans and wounded soldiers. It now serves as the prestigious setting for the Army Museum, with its famous 110 meters high golden dome. It is one of the five most visited museums in France.
The museum's collection holds more than 500,000 pieces covering French military history from the Middle Ages up to the present day. In this newly designed educational route, you will find armors, weapons like swords, cannons, and uniforms which belonged to kings of France, as well as paintings, photographs and personal effects of important figures such as Francis I, Louis XIV and Charles de Gaulle .
